(Psalm 42)
1 As the deer pants for streams of water, sopants for Thee, O God my soul.
2 My soul thirsts for God, the living God;
When I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
As I say every day: Where is your God?
4 I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me;
of how I went with the crowd, and drove to the house of God,
the voice of joy and praise of the people in celebration.
5 Why are you downcast, O my soul,
And so disturbed within me?
hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God
mine.
6 My God, my soul is cast down within me I remember
therefore you from the land of Jordan,
And the Hermonites, from Mount Mizar.
7 Deep calls to another with the voice of your waterfalls;
all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
8 But by day the Lord will send his mercy,
And at night his song shall be with me,
and my prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God my rock, why have you forgotten me?
Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10 As one who hurts my bones, mine enemies reproach me,
say daily: Where is your God?
11 Why are you downcast, O my soul,
And why are you disquieted within me?
hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God
mine.
